From G+ to Twitter to Bsky

It's been quite a while.

I don't think I put anything here after G+ closed and I moved to Twitter. Twitter began a lot like G+ but as more people came on conversations reverted to what we think of today as the mean of social media.

Enshitification.

Talking about shit, Rush Limbaugh was ranting about feminazis 25 years ago. He was offended women claimed they should have the right to be treated the same as men and to be paid the same for the same work.

Rush is who I think of when I hear even moderate Republicans talking about turning the clock back to the 1950s. The words we hear spoken are the same ones spoken by the John Birch Society and people who felt the need to put their god "back into American life." As if Christianity were under attack.

This week, Donald Trump issued an Executive Order that "Establishes Religious Liberty Commission with the stated intent of protecting the free exercise of religion." In doing so, he granted the wishes of a group of Christian Nationalists who feel . . . Christianity is under attack. (1950s)

The same feeling gripped Calvinists in the mid-1700s. It resulted in the Great Awakening. Sermons about the corrupt nature of humankind, hellfire and damnation. Demons and whatnot. More about that in the next essay.

Unfortunately many of these efforts are being led by men like Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and church leaders who have decided there have been unfair demands made on them to give women and minorities the same opportunities they had.

They have the feeling they are under attack and need to assert their Natural Rights as Alpha Males who lead society. If you go down the rabbit hole of Alpha Male, you'll find the original researcher trying to explain it is not natural and is only found among humans in prison yards.

Following them is a large group of young men and some older men,who idolize radical right philosophy because they admire the appearance adopted by figures like Andrew Tate and Elon Musk.Tate’s messaging is pitched to young men and is a message of aspirational healthy and fit masculinity. He feels they have been emasculated by liberal governments and empowered women.

It's variously described as the man-o-sphere or hypermasculine behavior.

The ‘alpha male’ concept aims to normalise harmful gender stereotypes.
